Having heard CBS Radio report that John Edwards was suspending his presidential campaign based on a blog post at Politico.com, color me not surprised at all that Edwards is not suspending his campaign.

Blogs are great at sniffing out all kinds of pieces of information, but high-powered, top level political dope ain’t necessarily one of them. A decision about pulling out of a presidential campaign is highly restricted, we’re talking three or four people, especially when health matters are involved. Were anyone to leak such info, and it is not clear why they would as it does not involve an intra-campaign policy or strategy dispute, they would almost certainly leak it to a high-level network news or daily paper player. Someone who could do you a favor in return later on.

Some guy with a blog? Don’t think so.

Now, to the real story that, predictably, the mainstream media is now missing, seeing as they are having too much fun beating up on Politico.com. The Internet was Wrong! The Internet was Wrong! They are almost dancing.

No, the real story is that John Edwards plans to run on his wife’s cancer. This makes perfect sense for him. Edwards both feels you pain and invites you to feel his. Two-way victimhood. Sounds like a winner.
