Maybe I’m the only who finds it ironic that right after former HAWS chairman Ernie was convicted of mail fraud in a property-flipping scheme, the City of Winston-Salem is looking to the legislature for the power to upfit homes that have been abandoned for at least two years.

The bill, sponsored by Rep. Larry Womble (who also sponsored the bill requiring companies that do business with the state to disclose their historical ties to slavery) is expected to pass the House today before moving on to the Senate.

While Womble and Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines talk about how the bill is such a ‘win-win’ situation, no mention is made of where the money’s coming from to upfit the houses.
