Ok, with about 15 percent of the Mecklenburg County precincts in, the GOP has the top two vote getters in the at-large county commission race. Which means not all that much right now.
Meanwhile, all the city of Charlotte bonds are winning. Grumble. Stay tuned.
Update: Doesn’t matter to the statewide result, but fascinating that Richard Burr is basically running neck-and-neck with Elaine Marshall in Meck right now. Really fascinating that Larry Kissell is crushing the Big Guy in the CLT precincts within the CD.
Update II: Only about a quarter of the votes are in but Bill Brawley is up big over Democrat Ann Newman in a Matthews NC House seat the Dems thought they might have a shot at getting. And Corey Thompson now trails Jennifer Roberts by 2200 votes for the final at-large commish seat. Long way still to go.
Update III: Now about half through, Harold Cogdell has jumped ahead of Thompson and into 4th place. Bunch of Dem votes seem to have come in with that latest batch — Marshall now ahead of Burr in Meck. Yet another weird one for the local GOP to explain.
Update IV: Tell you what, Michael Cavallo is giving Martha Alexander an actual race in NC House 106. He probably won’t get there, but still. On BOCC, gotta ask — just how many GOPers voted for Roberts anyway? Or did Dems cross over to vote for former Dem Jim Pendergraph? The former sheriff has 12,000 more votes than Thompson right now.
Update V: Roberts vaults into second place behind Pendergraph. Only about 60 precincts left and GOP may have hit its high-water mark already in the county.
Update VI: Can Ramirez hold off Harold Cogdell? I’m thinking no — not with the precincts still out. A 3000 vote gap right now.
Update VII: Yep, Cogdell closing the gap, now less than 2000 votes back.
Update VIII: Cogdell now within 50 votes of Ramirez for final BoCC at-large slot. Roberts also gaining on Pendergraph.
Update IX: And Cogdell pulls ahead of Ramirez. Goodnight Meck GOP.
