Yesterday the State of North Carolina held elections for municipalities, where there were 85 contests in total across North Carolina.  Below are some of the facts about the elections yesterday.

  • 16 Mayoral Races
  • 18 Towns or cities that held city council or town alderman races
  • 4 County’s with Commissioner Races
  • 2 Bond Referendums
  • 1 School Board Race

Many of the counties had multiple city council races which was the reason for the large amount of contests, even though not a large amount of towns participating.  Wake County was the only county to hold a bond referendum.  The City of Raleigh held a $75 million transportation bond and Wake County held a $810 million school bond, both of which passed overwhelmingly.

  • 23 Counties held elections yesterday
  • 170,527 ballots were cast
  • Statewide there was 11.29% voter turnout
  • Carteret County had the largest voter turnout by percentage of registered voters, 37.04%
  • Mecklenburg County had the least voter turnout by percentage of registered voters, 1.67%
  • Wake County had the most voters with 98,528 participating
  • Richmond had the least voters with 75 participating
