According to Politico, Elizabeth Edwards tells a TV show host this: (emphasis is mine)

“Part of the reason originally why I wrote the book was to give my children a different perspective on it. I knew I was going to die at some point before I wanted to, and I wanted them to not think of me as a victim. I’m not a victim — I never want to be perceived that way.

I continue to hope that Elizabeth Edwards’ health stabilizes and that she spends many more years with her children and friends. I’m sad for anyone — well known or not — whose spouse breaks their marriage vows.

In political terms, however, let’s be clear about the Edwards campaign and its dreadful treatment of the American public. The campaign treated supporters as pawns and was driven by an unquenchable thirst for power. Neither John nor Elizabeth Edwards were victims in that story.
