Elon University has a new poll out showing that a majority — 66 percent — of North Carolinians “support” or “strongly support” raising taxes “on Americans with incomes over one million dollars a year.”

In a poll from September, the Civitas Institute phrased the question differently and got a more divided response. Fifty-percent of likely general election voters said the government should “redistribute wealth by increasing taxes on wealthy earners.” Forty-percent said the government should not.

It should be noted that the Elon poll surveys all North Carolinians, not just likely voters. That means the sample tends to skew to the political left.

Here are some more results from Elon:

  • 47 percent disapprove of President Obama’s performance in office; 43 percent approve.
  • 82 percent disapprove of the the way Congress is doing its job; 9 percent approve.
  • On the question of which party is performing best in Congress, 33 percent said Democrats, 27 percent Republicans, and 36 percent neither party.
  • Thirty-four percent said they would support a Democrat for president if the election were held today and 30 percent said a Republican. Thirty percent were undecided.
  • Thirty percent said they would support a Democrat for Congress if the election were held today and 30 percent a Republican. Thirty-six percent were undecided.
