More news on the non-rainbow-PC nature of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Earlier, you’ll recall, some sages out there discovered racism in the blatant depiction of Orcs, Uruk-Hai and other LOTR bad guys as “dark people” intended to remind us of Africans and Arabs or I forget which. Me being so mired in Eurocentric thought & whatnot, I saw dark-green, grimy, bug-eyed, fang-baring freaks as director Peter Jackson’s fanciful interpretation of said baddies, not part of the Omnipresent White Conspiracy, but silly me, eh?

Anyway, this character compares the KKK-ness of LOTR with the rainbow goodness of the “Matrix” trilogy.

Here’s the crux of the article: “Say what you will about the convoluted storyline of the ‘Matrix’ trilogy ? at least those films give women and people of color some characters they can relate to.”

Actually, one that count I found little to “relate to” with the LOTR trilogy, being neither Elf, Dwarf, Hobbit, wizard, mysterious ranger from a long-departed race of long-lived men, ravenous demidemon reduced to a pitiful yet malevolent fraction of his former self (not yet, anyway, despite George’s best efforts), goblin (purebred or mix), eagle, leathery demon bird, orc (purebred or mix), elephant rider, cave-troll, talking tree, etc.

Although, come to think of it, Gimli did use Scottish terms of endearment on occasion (lass, etc.), and my heritage is Scots, and there were “Men from the South” …. whoah, dude, I am so offended. Thank goodness for the Matrix.
