Tomorrow New York City dwellers will get to bask in the red and yellow glow emanating from the Empire State Building. The tallest building in the Big Apple will be lit up to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the communist takeover–and apparently the subsequent oppression of billions of people–of Mainland China.
I’d like to suggest other events that NYC may want to shed light upon (pun intended). How about lighting up the ESB in Green and Red this year to mark the 30th Anniversary of the Iranian revolution, which brought to power the brutal rule of the Ayatollah Khomeini? Also North Korea celebrated its 61st anniversary of oppressive communist rule this year. In keeping with the occasion the folks at the ESB might want to consider lighting up the structure in blue and red.
And oh yes, let’s not forget Castro’s Cuba; they are celebrating 50 this year. As it turns out their colors are red, white, and blue. This would allow NYC to appease both the many local Michael Moore fans and any stray rightwing tea-party types that might happen to be visiting the city on vacation.
Heck, if Durham can have an entire restaurant dedicated to celebrating the Castro regime, NYC can at least light up the Empire State Building for a day.
