Joe Biden arrived in Asheville for a talk at UNCA. Since the event was unannounced, Mayor Terry Bellamy and Councilman Cecil Bothwell ducked out of their scheduled city council meeting. It was good that the time of the VP’s presentation was not announced, as he allegedly got held up by a storm in Charlotte. As he left, the cops shut down roads as needed, but most complaints about the rush-hour traffic jam may have been politically-motivated. The local visit was covered by the Charlotte Associated Press, and for equal time, prominent Republican hopefuls stumped at a last-minute press conference to refute anticipated claims while Biden was still up in the air.
