The school’s chemistry department was looking to hire a new professor and of the three candidates recommended, one was passed over because he was more experienced than the others, therefore making it “unfair” to compare him to the other two.

This take the phrase “equal opportunity employer” to a new and absurd level.

I think it’s a safe bet that this was just an excuse to avoid hiring an applicant on account of his race. The guy wouldn’t have added “diversity” to the school.
