I suppose it was inevitable that David Erdman would resign as Democratic Party chair following the Council of Review’s decision to toss out the Nick Mackey selection process. That basically told the world that Erdman had goofed by loosening the organizing process. Meck Deck readers were among the first to know of Erdman’s role in that decision.

But now it seems we’re set for a fight among county Democrats for that empty chairman slot. The activists who supported Mackey seem to think that this “healing” everyone keeps talking about means one of them at the top of the county party power structure. Then there are the long-time organizers of the party who blew the whistle on the Mackey precinct gaffes. They obviously believe another stuffed-shirt like Erdman is not the answer, not to mention anyone who already played fast and loose with the rules.

The thing to remember is that the county Democratic Party seems a shambles in the best of times. It is not even clear to me the extent to which the party might be still coasting on Andrew Reyes’ criminal dollars. As such, the coming fight over who chairs this organization is an extremely small stakes battle.
