Lindalyn Kakadelis joined WUNC-FM’s “State of Things” on Thursday for a
debate over the federal No Child Left Behind education law. Some schools continue to fail to
demonstrate “adequate yearly progress,”
which is a main requirement of the law. Kakadelis weighed in alongside Eddie Davis of the NC Association of Educators and education reporter Bruce Buchanan of the Greensboro News & Record. Kakadelis moved the discussion to the broader issue of school choice and the need to empower parents with options, such as charter schools.
She also noted that the current public school system continues to fail
some students miserably, as evidenced by the abysmal high school
graduation rate among African-Americans. WUNC is heard from the
Triangle to the coast. In a subject related to student achievement, two
more papers have published Kakadelis’ opinion piece about teachers’
lack of history knowledge: the Clayton News-Star and the Mooresville Tribune.
