We’ve addressed this before, but here’s the latest on the burden of health care costs from Ezekiel Emanuel, chair of the bioethics department at the NIH Clinical Center, and Victor Fuchs, a professor of economics at Stanford University:

Business, government and individuals do not share the financial responsibility for health coverage. Individuals bear the full cost of health care through lower wages and taxes.

Of course, their solution is to guarantee a basic insurance policy (defined by whom?) for everyone and I would prefer to allow individuals more control over their spending, but Columbia University professor Sherry Glied suggests the method of financing has little effect on costs, in which case the question becomes: Who do you trust to decide what care you get?
