It’s a lousy deal for many people, who will be compelled to spend lots more of their money on health insurance than they would choose to. So argues Avik Roy of the Manhattan Institute in this USA Today piece.

Roy explains, “Instead of making health insurance cheaper so that more young people can afford it, the ACA (i.e., Obamacare) makes insurance more expensive, and then compensates for this fact with the individual mandate. The law uses the mandate to force young people to buy costlier insurance that is even more out of whack with their actual needs.”

In short, Obamacare is another of the many instances where one government intervention creates problems that the politicians then try to fix with still more coercion. The HHS mandates on contraception coverage are but the camel’s nose under the tent. The web of federal coercion will grow and grow.
