Local government touches our lives in numerous ways, providing police, fire, parks, and schools — and taxing residents to pay for it all. A key question is deciding what is an appropriate use of local tax dollars, and what isn’t. In this presentation, the John Locke Foundation’s Julie Tisdale will share her mission to hold elected officials accountable by analyzing their decisions and spending habits. Julie will discuss high-profile projects and proposals taking shape across North Carolina — projects that have consequences for the taxpayers who pay the freight and for other communities that may follow the same path. These include transit and bike paths in Wake County, a community center in Rocky Mount, and major league soccer proposals in Charlotte and Raleigh.
