Such disparate political movements as the Tea Party, Occupy Wall Street, and Black Lives Matter, and the political successes of Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders, have all shared a common theme of frustration with the status quo. Part of the frustration stems from the difficulty in accessing opportunity in order to get ahead in life. Another component is the stubborn reality that one in eight still lives in a household that doesn’t earn enough to stay out poverty without government assistance. In this conversation, we’ll look at strategies that lead to more opportunity, and discuss the need to retool government policies and remove barriers that hold people back.
