We’ve long thought of the college campus as a marketplace of ideas where young people are encouraged to feed their curiosity, to open their minds to new perspectives, to evaluate pros and cons, and to engage in discussion and debate. But is that really the case anymore? A new report, Political Reality on North Carolina Campuses: Examining Policy Debates and Forums with Diverse Viewpoints,” examines that question and reveals what is – and isn’t – taking place. In this conversation, we’ll hear the results from report author Dr. George La Noue and talk with our panelists about the steps ahead, the polarized times in which we live, preserving free thought and free speech, and the challenge of nurturing a civil society of informed citizens.
