In fiscal year 2023 -24, North Carolina spent $11.4 billion on K-12 public schools, the largest single item in the state budget. For decades, the debate over public education has been hyper-focused on maximizing resources, with limited success. While resources are not unimportant, for too long North Carolina has ignored how those resources are allocated. It’s time to shift our focus to how North Carolina actually spends billions in state education funding. Are funds distributed wisely, efficiently or fairly? Is the system North Carolina uses to apportion funds, transparent and accountable? These are some of important questions are speakers will explore. We hope you can join us an evening that will be both educational and informative.
