Columbus has a real low tax rate of 41.5 cents, but water rates will be increasing 10 percent. The increase is to fund capital improvement projects for the water system, but the department doesn’t have Sullivan acts prohibiting water revenues from going into the general fund. That is Asheville’s crime and punishment, and that’s why you have to read the JLF’s report on tax burdens – so Asheville leadership can tell you how wrong it is.
