Remember the Brezhnev Doctrine? It was the idea proclaimed by Soviet ruler Leonid Brezhnev that once a nation had been taken over by communism, it could never go back. Non-communist nations were “up for grabs” but once communism had taken over, that was it. The egg was fried.
The way the Obama regime is behaving with regard to Honduras and that small country’s decision to oust its pro-Chavez president who had done things that were illegal under the Honduran constitution makes you think that Obama would have supported the Brezhnev Doctrine. He has the US siding with the former president and demanding his reinstatement. Once in the orbit of Hugo Chavez and his socialist ideology, always in his orbit — that seems to explain Obama’s unseemly intervention in the affairs of this country.
In today’s WSJ, Mary Anastasia O’Grady has an excellent column on this amazing use of American power against a country that has enforced its own law in a way that bothers the brotherhood of socialists.
