I had a special phone call this morning. The Asheville Citizen-Times is going to publish an article on the talk actuary and government consultant John Boyle delivered in Asheville about a month ago. The topic was unfunded liabilities at all levels of US government and how at present rates they could consume 26% of GDP if faithfully paid. Federal budgets continue to be out of balance, and the amount government really owes is closer to $76 trillion than $16 trillion. In order to call big-time attention to the problem, Gannett was given exclusive privileges for the content. I had a transcript in my greedy little paws, but agreed to abide by the instructions. Since all citizens who voted based on the assumption that government is the gift that keeps on giving didn’t need education anyway, it is no big deal that this is coming out four years before the next big election.

Anyhoo, assuming it is better late than never, the article is supposed to appear on newsstands this afternoon. Somebody who read a draft of the article says it is tremendous and wanted me to tell everybody about it.
