With Election Day little more than a month away, the John Locke Foundation and Carolina Journal are drawing attention to key races and substantive electoral trends. Washington Examiner senior political analyst Michael Barone headlined an election preview panel discussion Wednesday in Raleigh. WPTF Radio’s Bill LuMaye interviewed Barone before the event, as did senior News & Observer political reporter Rob Christensen. Christensen posted highlights from his interview in the “Under the Dome” blog and printed column. WPTF and State Government Radio covered the panel event and interviewed Barone afterward. JLF Senior Fellow Marc Rotterman moderated the panel discussion, which also featured Democratic strategist Gary Pearce and JLF President John Hood. Speaking of Hood, N.C. Senate Republicans highlighted two of his election-related columns this week. One discussed a “four-corners offense” Republicans will employ to try to win control of the General Assembly. The second explored how redistricting has limited the competitiveness of legislative races in North Carolina’s major metro areas. In addition to election analysis, CJ has attracted attention for its election-news coverage. N.C. Senate Republicans promoted Video News Editor Anthony Greco‘s reports on potential lawsuits in two legislative races. The Lincoln Tribune also noted Greco’s House District 10 report. Watchdog.org and the N.C. Free Enterprise Foundation highlighted Associate Editor David Bass‘ profile of the House District 41 race. The Lincoln Tribune, N.C. Free Enterprise Foundation, and N.C. Senate Republicans picked up Carolina Journal Radio Co-Host Donna Martinez‘s report on Senate District 43. The N.C. Free Enterprise Foundation also promoted contributor Karen McMahan‘s report on House District 88. The Lincoln Tribune published Associate Editor Sara Burrows‘ exclusive article on the instant runoff process planned for an appellate court contest involving 13 candidates.
