Advocates for higher teacher pay argue that North Carolina’s public school salaries lag behind those in other states. JLF Education Policy Analyst Terry Stoops explained again this year that the numbers contradict the claim. Stoops shared the facts about teacher pay in an interview with Danny Fontana on Charlotte’s WDYT Radio. Stoops also has argued against the current educational fad of pushing for a longer school day. The Heartland Institute’s School Reform News highlighted Stoops’ work on that topic. Lindalyn Kakadelis of the North Carolina Education Alliance joined Tara Servatius on WBT Radio to dissect the problems with a proposed bullying policy for Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools. Kakadelis labeled the proposal “symbolism over substance” and urged the school board to enforce existing rules against bullying. The News & Observer highlighted the Pope Center for Education Policy’s efforts to recognize outstanding college courses with its Spirit of Inquiry Contest.
