Some people aren’t bashful about voting themselves more power – like some members of the URTV (Buncombe County Public Access TV) board of directors. They will be holding a meeting to change their bylaws, but they broke their bylaws by providing insufficient notice. Changes include replacing all members with nonvoting associates. Seven of fifteen board members would be appointed by the sitting board, two by the county commissioners, and two by Asheville city council. Four associates would happen.
Two board members, Davyne Dial and Richard Bernier, have challenged the board for fishy dealings, mostly including transparency. They questioned an oath they were asked to sign swearing not to talk to the press about the board’s dealings. Then, there was a series of actions that indicated those running the show did not care about the rules that governed the body. Multiple attempts have been made to remove Dial and Bernier from the board, but they continue to serve because the bylaws were not followed in these actions, either.
The board couldn’t hold its regularly-scheduled meeting because they couldn’t unlock the doors at the meeting place.
