Swain County received $2 million from the Golden LEAF Foundation, and leadership, with community input, has “finally” selected the three projects they want funded.
“What you don’t want to do is spread money so thin that it gives everybody a chance to fail,” said Dan Gerlach, president of Golden LEAF.
Giving everybody a chance to fail is WNC AgOptions. It is dispensing a total of $153,000 of NC Tobacco Trust funds in $3000-$6000 amounts. Funds will go toward agricultural diversification in the western part of the state. Once again, the need is so great, an applicant review process will determine what to do with the money.
