I’m a semi-regular shopper at Deep Roots Market and would definitely be a regular if they moved downtown. But as you can probably imagine —– I’m not down with using fed stimulus dollars. Hey, if the new Greensboro City Council wants to show us what they’re made of right off the bat, they’ll vote not to endorse this deal.

Since possible use of taxpayer money has been brought up, I think it’s fair to mention —someone correct me if I’m wrong —- that several years ago Deep Roots was going to move into the strip center on West Market near Lindley Park, but internal problems negated the move, leaving the developer with space specifically outfitted for a grocery store. It sat there for a while before Tobacco USA moved in.

That was several years ago, and Deep Roots may indeed be on sounder footing to make a big move, but you have to wonder why they need taxpayers’ money, not to mention why general manager Joel Landau ran for City Council.
