Macon County was noted for defying political trends in the last election by having several Conservative candidates come out on top. More recently, the county commissioners showed their hearts and priorities are in the right place, but their ends to means sounded a little Progressive.

The commissioners, recognizing a shortage of assistance for the mentally ill, supported “further study of a possible intergovernmental service delivery system for mental health services.” This would be accomplished through a “160-A Governmental Service.” The commissioners argued that the organization is statutorily required before local governments can deliver services the state won’t provide and counties can’t afford.

Perhaps of more direct assistance will be a new, regional 16-bed psychiatric unit that is “working its way through the [existing] bureaucracy.”
