State Republican Party chairman Tom Fetzer took authorities to task this morning for allowing Democratic fundraiser Rusty Carter to plead guilty this week to misdemeanor charges connected with illegal campaign contributions.
Carter funneled thousands of dollars to campaigns of Gov. Bev Perdue, Senate President Pro Tem Marc Basnight, and Sen. Julia Boseman.
In a morning news conference, Fetzer said, “As a North Carolinian, I’m embarrassed by what happened in New Hanover County the day before yesterday. I think the D.A. down there either wittingly or unwittingly participated in a cover-up.”
Fetzer also reacted to Tuesday’s primary election results. N.C. House Minority Leader Paul Stam, R-Wake, and Minority Whip Thom Tillis, R-Mecklenburg, joined him for the 30:58 briefing. Watch it by clicking the play button below.
