President Bush has finally vetoed a spending bill and the Democrats are acting as though the sky is about to fall. This WSJ editorial explains what’s going on here, namely pork barreling as bad as when the Republicans were in control of Congress. The GOP wanted pork for its favorites and the Dems want pork for theirs, such as a subsidy for the AFL-CIO’s “Working Families Institute.”

A great reform would be to forbid these omnibus bills and take each proposed item of spending on its own merits.
