The N.C. Department of Public Instruction released average daily membership data for the first month of school.  It is important to note that these figures will be revised and are not the ones used to determine the final amount of state funding that each district or charter school will receive.

As of the first month, districts enrolled 1,408,378 students, charters enrolled 116,316 students, and other public schools (laboratory and regional schools and the Innovative School District) enrolled 1,405 students.  How does that compare to the first month of last year?  Districts enrolled 1,411,196 students, charters enrolled 109,491 students, and other public schools enrolled 1,491 students last year.

It is unwise to make sweeping judgments about public school enrollment based on these figures.  Save that for the release of the month 2 figures.
