First Volvo uses Donovan on its new commercials (the folky Donovan iteration, not the mellow yellow Donovan) and now Nissan is using an old Woody Guthrie song on its commercial (“Riding in My Car”).

Those opening notes of Donovan’s “Catch the Wind” were unmistakable to me when I first heard them on the Volvo spot. I must have played them 1,000 times since I got that record in 1964. I ran across an online forum discussion of Gen-X’ers wondering what the song was. Hey, it’s only one of the top five best folk songs ever written!

Kids these days.
