As Sara Burrows’ story about the “food police” in NC preschool continues to unfold, the food police are making appearances in other places, not just NC schools. The U.S military is also being invaded by what appears to be a kid-sized lesson on food choices. Last week, CNSNews.com reported that the new program being instituted at military facilities is a system used in public schools.

The “Go for the Green” is based on the stoplight colors of red, amber, and green. Unhealthy foods are red, moderately healthy foods are amber, and healthy foods are green. Solders are greeted with the red label on foods like bacon, pies, and cakes and are encouraged to rarely eat these foods. Along with this system soda machines have been removed and they now have “hydration stations.”

Lt. Col. Sonya Cable who is touting the stoplight idea is the U. S. Army Soldier Fueling Initiative representative. “We talk about a village that raises a child. Well a community develops a brand new soldier, too,” states Cable, but she should be ashamed of this idea. These men and women are not children in a village social experiment; they are warriors.

They are also adults, not preschoolers or elementary school students who need a stoplight system; they know the difference between high fat, high calorie foods vs. low fat, low calorie foods. How many overweight solders do you see? I’m sure Cable’s diet, which is high in foods like mustard greens, will not help solders carry their forty pounds of equipment into war.

Even Michelle Obama has visited military bases to tell solders what to eat -just what a First Lady who is an attorney should be doing, advising the military.

Not only has the military been invaded by the “food police, it has been invaded with a lack of respect for enlistees who must be treated like children and as Cable says, “developed.”
