[Hoggard High School student Kaylyn] Koone was one of about 50 people who came to Tuesday’s [New Hanover Board of Education] meeting in protest of North Carolina’s House Bill 2, and seven speakers asked the board to take a stance opposing the law.

I suppose the New Hanover school board could pass a resolution opposing HB 2, aka the bathroom bill, but they cannot do much more than that.  And such a resolution would not convince the members of the N.C. General Assembly to change or repeal the bill.  That is why Board chairman Don Hayes wisely moved the meeting forward.

Opponents of HB 2 have spent a lot of time lobbying elected officials who are far removed from the state legislature.  I suspect that opponents’ strategy will irk elected officials, rather than earn support for the anti HB 2 cause.  That seems like a counterproductive game plan.
