Robert Samuelson joins the list of commentators who miss the point of Obamacare. The goal is not to improve the system. The goal is to make insurance companies look so evil that people beg for the government to take over.
No individual will pay higher direct taxes. They will face many indirect taxes through higher health insurance premiums and implicit taxes as they earn their way out of subsidies. Those of us in the individual market will see our premiums rise as the pool of insureds shrinks. The list goes on.
But all of the pain will come through your insurance company or your doctor or your employer, not the government.
Then the drumbeat will begin for the government to protect us by taking over health insurance, as it is doing with college loans.
