Former UNC Board of Governors Chairman John Fennebresque was arrested Thursday morning at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport for attempting to carry a gun through security checkpoints, according to a report from WSOC.
Fennebresque, who resigned from the board last October, told police he forgot the gun was in his bag, but will still be charged with possession of a weapon on city property.
The Charlotte attorney submerged himself in controversy early last year when he fired former UNC President Tom Ross and hired President-Elect Margaret Spellings under questionable board proceedings.
