In a 4-3 vote, Forsyth county commissioners signed off on a $40 million bond referendum for “library improvements,” including a new central library. A public hearing will be held later this month, but “last night’s vote signaled that the board intends to move forward with a referendum, and that commissioners are badly divided.”

I’ll give the board’s three Republicans credit for attempting to put the brakes on an insane plan to increase the county’s debt load with a very difficult 2011 looming.
