Winston-Salem Journal reports the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners will ask the General Assembly for permission to dissolve to the county’s airport commission, which oversees Smith Reynolds Airport, effectively putting commissioners in charge of the airport.
Commissioner Ted Kaplan said that since the airport commission was formed years ago, the legislature has allowed counties to set up commissions and authorities, adding that a lot of counties have done this.
“I don’t suspect this will be much change in the way that the airport operates today, except to say that one of the goals I would have is that whatever the decisions the airport commission makes regarding property that is owned by Forsyth County that they would bring it before this board,” Kaplan said. “Currently under the statute, they do not have to do that.”
