Last week I highlighted Forsyth County District Attorney Tom Keith’s comments on the Racial Justice Act in Yes! Weekly. This week, he’s catching heat other comments he made in the article:
“If you’re African-American, you’re six, seven or eight times more likely to have a violent history,” Keith was quoted as saying. “I didn’t go out there and put a gun in your hand and say, ‘You commit eight crimes, and I’m a white man, I’ll commit one.’ That’s just instincts, that’s just how it is.”
Keith said that supporters of Kalvin Michael Smith, now serving time in prison for the brutal beating of Jill Marker, are using his comments as a political ploy “bolster their cause and to manipulate public sentiment.”
