Campell County Virginia has turned down a rezoning request for Duke professor Gary Hull’s Founder’s College. The planning commission was wary of the size of the project and of its effect on the rural character of Campell County:

“What it really comes down to, to me in the long run, is that it’s too much, too soon,” said commissioner William Calohan.

Hull, director of the Values and Ethics in the Marketplace program at Duke had originally considered Oxford, NC, before settling on a now-defunct conference center in Lynch Station, near Altavista, Va. No word in the story regarding where he’ll try next.
