A-ha.

Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx finally reveals in detail the gambit the Uptown crowd has in mind. The city would cut its property tax rate to revenue neutral level while Mecklenburg County does not, with the resulting millions in additional millions in property tax revenue produced by higher valuations “earmarked” by the county for school funding.

Slick, very slick. City officials are up for election in 2011, not county. But ultimately still a tax hike on Mecklenburg homeowners and BS to boot. Like we’ve said for years now, the county is counting on a reval windfall to prop up its lavish spending of the past decade. Remember, local pols think they need to “capture” additional slices of your wallet rather than right-size local government, the government staff themselves admit we can no longer afford.
