The mayor claims that fundraising to pay for the DNC is “right on track” but didn’t provide numbers. When pressed, he added:

“Remember that we’re doing something that’s different than any convention in history … to not take money from corporations, PACs and lobbyists,” Foxx said. “And with all due respect to my colleague and friend Mayor Buckhorn, the convention down in Tampa is doing just that. That’s the way things have gone on in the past. We’re building a new kind of airplane.”

That’s not a reassuring analogy at all. New types of airplanes — or new types of anything else — often have problems in development and as they first enter service. And the way Foxx phrased it doesn’t exactly instill confidence either. So yes, be afraid.
