The free market has won an early victory in South Carolina. In Tuesday?s primary, the two free-enterprise, free-trade candidates ? Rep. Jim DeMint and Charleston developer Thomas Ravenel ? got a total of 51 percent of the vote in the U.S. Senate primary. The top vote-getter was former Gov. David Beasley, who is sounding protectionist themes. He got 37 percent of the vote to DeMint?s 26 percent and Ravenel?s 25 percent. Beasley and DeMint will now move to a runoff, with Ravenel probably endorsing DeMint.
