On the Communist holiday May Day last year, a very large crowd marched through downtown Asheville. Persons who had entered this country illegally, and those who supported their “rights†to the same privileges enjoyed by American citizens celebrated with fellow travelers across the nation in the We Are One America festivities. City Councilwoman Robin Cape was one of the more notable sympathizers participating.
The demonstrators had applied for a permit, but allegations surfaced that the city was making up fees as they went along in an exercise of racial profiling. The ACLU managed to get on top of the matter and filed a lawsuit. In response, the city recently passed an ordinance revising its procedures for permitting demonstrations. The precedent being set, unless I am mistaken, is that people from any country can now illegally enter the United States, demonstrate on our streets with the kind of free speech Americans lose in the red tape, and change our laws to suit their purposes.
