Chad–Bush’s use of the word freedom is inconsistent with the way the term is ever used when talking about the freedoms that Americans “enjoy” and might pass on to their children. His use of the term was at best incoherent. From a political perspective it makes no sense, except from some wacky left wing perspective, and from a psychological perspective, which is what you suggest he had in mind, it is simply inaccurate. Certainly it is not a freedom that any generation to my knowledge has ever enjoyed. My parents came of age fearing Hitler then Stalin. My generation went through duck and cover and bomb shelters in fear of nuclear annihilation. I stand by my post, whatever he meant, it is a meaningless use of language. If Bill Clinton used this kind of rhetoric we’d be all over him like the white on rice.
