Freedom of religion is very important. People, individually and as groups that call themselves churches, congregations, etc., should get their marching orders from the Creator. Well, government stuck its ugly head in between man and God, and so now once or twice a year, we have to hear the church’s statement of strict political neutrality from the pulpit. In order to keep tithes and offerings going toward doing God’s work instead of lining political contributors’ pockets, the church wishes to maintain its tax-exempt status. Consequently, we cannot, as a church, campaign, lobby, or pressure for or against candidates or political platforms. We cannot use church buildings, rosters, paper or pencils for political purposes.

And then, there’s the Moral Monday movement. They don’t have to comply with any of the above. Why, just judging from the surface, it appears they receive tax dollars for political priestcraft.
