Friends of Wake County, the Wake school construction bond propaganda group, held their kickoff rally this morning at Exploris. The group raised $400,000 so far and could afford to serve platters of fresh fruit, caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee, and croissants. The croissants were not bakery fresh.

Aside from the bizarre decision to hold the rally at a charter school, there was nothing noteworthy about the rally. Actually, Jim Hunt was fairly entertaining, especially when he talked about Wake’s policy to bus students and the success of National Board Certification.

The theme of the day was that bonds, not COPS, are the best way to pay for schools because they have a lower interest rate than COPS. So, they will be working hard to educate the public about different debt mechanisms. Hmmmm.

If you peruse the Friends of Wake County website, you will see my name listed. Do not be alarmed. FOWC believes that the committee I serve on, the Citizens’ Facilities Advisory Committee, will make voters feel comfortable about entrusting the school board with over $1 billion. Hmmmm.
