Local Bobby Sullivan, GM of the French Broad Food Co-Op, went to Washington, DC with famous people like Jerry Greenfield of Ben & Jerry’s and Gary Hirschberg of Stonyfield Farm, to demand mandatory labeling of food products containing GMO’s. I am fine if health eaters are afraid of GMO’s and want protection. But where do you draw the line? Personally, I have not seen any science to cause me to fear GMO’s, and I am not impressed with a bunch of numbers and graphs that are supposed to be too scientific for me to understand when in fact they are only poorly-documented, lacking statements test methods, epidemiological thresholds, and how those levels were established. Real health food fanatics probably don’t eat much in the way of labeled food and have a GMO app on their smartphones, anyway. Everybody’s different. I hate to say it, but I’m afraid to eat the politics packaged in Ben & Jerry’s.
