Go to www.fundrace.org, type in any zip code, and you will see who in that zip code donated to which presidential candidate. I just did 27514, the primary zip code for Chapel Hill. It revealed exactly 10 Bush donors — not one an academic. The most notable Bush donor was Clay Hammer of Montrose Capital.
Most of the Bush donors were business people, homemakers, or retirees. One was an attorney. Everyone identified as affiliated with the university donated to one of the Democratic candidates. One political science professor donated to Wesley Clark, which ought to immediately disqualify one from teaching poli-sci.
Expand to 27515 and 27516, and one finds a few more Bush donors, including Thomas and Betty Kenan, and one doctor. Dean Smith, by the way, gave to both John Edwards ($2,000) and Howard Dean ($1,250).
