The headline reads, “Tuition Cap Idea Endorsed by UNC Panel.”

Fascinating
read, there is a cap, but it’s a moving cap that allows for tuition
increases of 6.5% per year.  Over four years, that’s over a 26%
increase in tuition.  The same spin was also given credibility in
most of the printed media.

What if the headlines read, “6.5% Annual Tuition Increases Approved by UNC Board”?   And then a nice subhead, “Increases almost twice the rate of inflation.”

The General Assembly should try this next time they have a $2.4 billion surplus.

“General Assembly Approves Spending Cap”, legislators say cap is solid proof of responsible spending.
