The town of Beech Mountain’s attempt to evict the Genesis Wildlife Sanctuary from town-owned property was thrown out of court for “a disturbing series of actions on behalf of the town with regard to this property.” Attorneys representing Genesis then alleged the town had targeted it with an ordinance prohibiting wildlife from coming within 200 feet of Buckeye Lake. The attorneys claim Beech Mountain failed to provide the requisite notice and public hearing. The court ordered the town to pay the nonprofit $360,000, but an appeal is expected. Just guessing, I would is-pose there is some kind of legal activity going down in the sanctuary that would be politically hazardous to approach head-on – either that, or a higher-paying prospective tenant lurks.
